Exhibitions 2011

Solo Exhibition: Bare Branches, Blue Black Sky

The exhibition will mostly show non functional or sculptural baskets although at some venues, notably at Edinburgh, there will be a selection of functional and indigenous baskets also.

To coincide with this exhibition I am publishing a 76 page book, Bare Branches, Blue Black Sky. This book focuses mainly on non functional work and has sections on materials, tradition and innovation, sources of inspiration and methods of making. There is also a gallery section with colour images- in all there are more than 100 images. This book will be available at the exhibition venues and the Irish launch will be held at Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford at 17.00 on Saturday, 19th of March in conjunction with Waterford Writers Week. All are welcome. The book is also available direct from Joe Hogan Baskets at 10 euro and orders received before mid April will be sold post free. Email joe@joehoganbaskets.com to order.

The RDS National Crafts Competition in its present form has been held annually since 1968 to promote Irish craft and design. Growing in stature each year, it is the major Irish crafts industry competition, allowing both professional and amateur craft designers to exhibit and promote their work.

The Crafts Council recognises that Irish craft is driven by creativity, and it is this dynamic that has led to a vibrant indigenous industry that is a natural meeting point for culture and commerce. The Crafts Council Bursary is awarded to support and recognise the achievements of professional craftspeople in the creative development of their craft, which will lead to new opportunities in their practice.
